she dreams of art :: studio spaces
Since then I have graduated to two studio spaces here in my own home. I have a spare bedroom upstairs that we revamped just for this purpose, and in the summer I take my supplies downstairs to our pretty sunroom, where I am surrounded by my pets and favorite collections.
Here is a snippet of my upstairs studio. Yes, it was dutifally cleaned for the photo. I am a VERY messy artist in reality!
I’ve always been fascinated by other artist’s work spaces and started a group on Flickr called “Studio Works”. Some of the spaces that have been posted there are a testament to the artist’s creative character.
I’d like to share with you various spaces that artisitc folk have sent my way. Because I had such a large reply for my call for studio spaces, I plan on writing several articles on artsy hang-outs here at the WishStudio Blogzine.

It seems as though a lot of us still have a “dream” studio that we have yet to obtain. Leah is happy with her surroundings, but does dream of something more. I have created with her, and know for a fact that she can put forth fabulous art no matter where she sits her little fanny.
She writes, “I have a room in my apartment that is my office/studio space. It’s a bit cramped, but it’s wonderful to have a room that’s all mine. So I create in my studio space mostly, but sometimes I bring whatever I’m working on out to the t.v. room as I kind of like background noise while I create. My dream studio would be a large open space with big windows, hardwood floors and tall ceilings. It would have space for workshops as well as space for my own creating and I’d have lots of surfaces to work on.
Some of us, like Carolyn are happy and feel blessed to have the perfect surroundings! Maybe the real estate world could learn a thing or two here…. She writes, “My own studio, my dream come true. It’s a spare bedroom in our house. When we first saw this house last year I was amazed that one of the bedrooms had good light, a cathedral ceiling and was pink!!! Obviously, it was waiting for us to come along and buy it. It’s filled top to bottom with all of my stuff; a lot of storage drawers, a small jewelers bench, a table in the middle of the room so that everything is convenient and within reach. In a word, I must say that having a room of my own is pure BLISS.” To visit her space, wander over here.
She writes, “Since I mostly have been needlefelting lately, I grab enough roving, needles, wire and whatever I think I need for a project for the day and hit the cafes, sidewalks and parks. Needlefelting is a mysterious temptress that lures in the passerby. My studio is the den officially but my work and supplies linger in several spots. I have a pinata closet and also bags, boxes and bins of supplies in the den, spare room and laundry room. The dolls I create are quite demanding and they jump out of the roving and tell me their tales. I always have an idea of where I’m going but sometimes I take a detour.”

I’ll finish this article with the most incredible studio space I have ever seen. I can honestly say that I have never seen so much love and creativity go into a singular space as Sara Lechner’s It blows me away everytime. I’ll share this photo with you, but what I would suggest is to grab a cup of tea, or maybe some wine, put some music on, click here and view her slideshow. Now just sit back, relax, dream and enjoy!
